A Note on Using the E8a and E8 Emulator Software Products

Please take note of the following problem in using the emulator software products for the on-chip debugging emulators E8a and E8:
  • Problem arising from a treatment of the MCU's pin connected with the BUSY pin on the emulator

1. Products and Versions Concerned
   - E8a Emulator Software V.1.00 Release 00 and V.1.00 Release 00A
   - E8 Emulator Software V.2.09 Release 01 through V.2.10 Release 00

2. Description
If the MCU's pin connected with the BUSY pin (pin no. 9) on the connecting
connector of the E8a or E8 is pulled down or floated in the user
system, the emulator software may not be invoked.

3. Conditions
Case 1. When the user system designed with a member of the 740 MCU
           family is debugged.
The debugger cannot be invoked if the following conditions are all
     satisfied:
      - The debugger is 740 E8a Emulator Debugger.
      - The user system is designed with any member of the 38D5, 3803L,
        or 3804L MCU group.
      - The MCU's pin connected with the BUSY pin (pin no. 9) on the
connecting connector of the E8a or E8 is pulled down or floated in
        the user system.
The programmable I/O port of the MCU's pin connected with the BUSY
        pin is as follows:
         - P43 in the 38D5 group
         - P47 in the 3803L and 3804L groups

Case 2. When the user system designed with a member of the M16C
           family is debugged.
The debugger cannot be invoked if the following conditions are all
     satisfied:
     - The debugger is either of the the following:
          M16C E8a emulator debugger
          M32C E8a emulator debugger
          M16C E8 emulator debugger
          M32C E8 emulator debugger
      - The user system is designed with any member of the M16C/60,
        M16C/30, M16C/Tiny, or M32C/80 MCU series.
      - The pin (programmable I/O port P64) on the MCU connected with
the BUSY pin (pin no. 9) on the connecting connector of the E8a or E8
is pulled down in the user system.

4. Workarounds
   (1) In Case 1, pull up the MCU's pin concerned in the user system.
   (2) In Case 2, pull up the MCU's pin concerned or keep it floated
       in the user system.

5. Schedule of Fixing the Problem
We plan to fix this problem in the next release of the product.
