Free-of-Charge Replacement of Malfunctioning Charged-WS, Commercial Products of the R0E530650MCU00 MCU Unit and Upgraded R0E530640MCU00 MCU Unit with Properly Functioning Ones

In the charged-WS, commercial products of the R0E530650MCU00 MCU unit and the upgraded products of the R0E530640MCU00, we are replacing malfunctioning products with properly functioning ones free of charge.

These MCU units are used for the M16C/65 and /64A groups of MCUs in combination with the E100 emulator.

1. Description
There is a probability that malfunctioning products are included in
the MCU units for the M16C/65 and /64A groups of MCUs. If you use any of
these products, you may not program on-chip RAM area of the evaluation
MCU, or software breaks may occur at addresses where no software
   breakpoints have been set.

The R0E530650MCU00 MCU units concerned are those with the lower four
digits of the serial numbers listed in the table below.
And all the upgraded products of the R0E530640MCU00, which are upgraded
to those for the M16C/65 and /64A groups of MCUs, are concerned.
The serial numbers are inscribed on the cables attached to the MCU
   units.
R0E530650MCU00 Lower 4 digits of Serial Numbers
Charged-WS 0001 through 0029, 0032 through 0048,
and 0054 through 0064
Commercial 0065, 0067 through 0109,
0114 through 0116, 0118 through 0131,

operates properly by performing the steps described in Section 2,
and if yours is a malfunctioning product, we will replace it with
a properly functioning one free of charge.

2. How to Check the Operations of the Product
Execute the Self-Check program of the MCU unit by going through
   the following steps:

   (1) Checking the version number of M16C R8C E100 Emulator Software
Check whether the version number of you M16C R8C E100 Emulator
Software is V.1.01 Release 00. If it is earlier than V.1.01
Release 00, update your emulator software to the latest version
by downloading the update program from the Web site at:
         http://www.renesas.com/e100_download
If you have installed V.1.02 Release 00 (to be published on July 16,
2009) or later, skip Step (2), and move to Steps (3) and (4).

   (2) Updating the Self-Check program
       a. Download the zip file
            r0e530650mcu00_selfchkprogram_revision_installer_090616.zip
to update the Self-Check program from the Web page here.
This Web page is opened from June 17 on.
       b. Decompress the downloaded zip file to obtain the update program
(an exe file). Then execute it and follow the instructions
provided on-screen to update the Self-Check program.
If two or more M16C R8C E100 emulator software products have
been installed, make sure that the emulator software is active
          in advance.
       c. Check to see that the date of creation of the E100SELF_M16C.dll
file is June 8, 2009. If so, update is successful. If you have
installed the emulator software products in the standard manner,
this file will be found in the following folder:
            C:¥Program Files¥Renesas¥Hew¥Tools¥Renesas
                ¥DebugComp¥Platform¥E100¥M16C¥self¥M16C64

If the date of creation of E100SELF_M16C.dll is not June 8,
2009, and you have performed Sub-step b correctly, redo the
          update.

   (3) Executing the Self-Check program
Follow the instructions described in the R0E530650MCU00 user's
manual to execute the Self-Check program of your MCU unit.
Be sure to execute the program under the condition that the user
system is not connected with the E100 emulator.

   (4) Checking the results of the self-diagnosis
If the message saying "Self-Check was normally completed" is
displayed after the Self-Check program is complete, your MCU
unit is functioning properly. So use it as before.
If the message saying "The error occurred while Self-Checking"
is displayed, it is probable that your MCU unit is a malfunctioning
one. In this case, click "Log" in the Self Check window to save
the results of the self-diagnosis on a text file, and then send
the text file to us as described in Section 3.

3. How to Apply for Free-of-Charge Replacement
If it is probable that your R0E530650MCU00 MCU unit is a malfunctioning
one, send to our contact center the e-mail that asks us to examine the
results of the self-diagnosis with the text file containing the results
attached. Your e-mail is acceptable on and after June 17, 2009.

4. Notices
   (1) If your MCU unit is proved to be a malfunctioning product concerning
this issue after examining your text file, we will replace it with
a properly functioning one. Note, however, that even if your MCU
unit is proved to be malfunctioning, it will not be replaced as
long as the self-diagnosis has incorrectly been conducted or
your MCU unit has suffered a breakdown.

   (2) We will ship a properly functioning R0E530650MCU00 within 10
working days except for the transportation period after receiving
your MCU unit. Be aware that shipment will take 10 or more days
if we have had a large number of applications at one time.
