Settings of the Multiplexed Bus Space Select Bits
in Emulation Pods for the M16C/62, M16C/6N,
M16C/6V, and M16C/6H Group MCUs

According to MAEC TECHNICAL NEWS No. M16C-71-0105 "Setting procedure of processor mode bits", please change the settings of the multiplexed bus space select bits as described below.
For details of the above news (PDF file).
(due to be available on May 16, 2001)

  1. Emulation Pods Concerned
    M16C/62 group MCUs
    (Note)
    M30620T-RPD-E, M30620T-RPD
    M30620TB-RPD-E, M30620TB-RPD
    M30620T2-RPD-E
    M30620TL-RPD-E
    M16C/6N group MCUs M306N0TB-RPD-E
    M306N0T2-RPD-E
    M16C/6V group MCUs M306V0T-RPD-E, M306V0T-RPD
    M306V2T-RPD-E, M306V2T-RPD
    M16C/6H group MCUs M306H0T-RPD-E, M306H0T-RPD
    M306H1T-RPD-E, M306H1T-RPD
    (Note)
The pods for the M16C/62 group MCUs remodeled from those for the M16C/60 and M16C/61 group are excluded.

  2. How to Change the Settings
Run your emulation pod in single chip mode (applying VSS to CNVSS pin); then, if you use the multiplexed bus, set the processor mode "0" register (PM0) in the following steps:
Step 1: Load values into PM0 to establish the settings of the multiplexed bus space select bits (PM04 and PM05)
Step 2: Then, load values into it to establish the settings of the processor mode bits
For information on how to make the settings of the processor mode bits, refer to MAEC TECHNICAL NEWS No. M16C-71-0105 (PDF file).
(due to be available on May 16, 2001)

  3. Caution
If debug operations are performed during the period between steps 1 and 2 above, the following symptoms appear:
    (1) The Trace and RAM Monitor windows cannot properly be displayed.
    (2) If such debug operations as breaks, memory references, and rewrites are performed, the pod becomes out of control.
    [Example:]
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
      PM0's values
00000000B At Reset (single chip mode)
         : (Proper emulation performed)
00011000B Multiplexed bus space select bits loaded
         :
         : (Symptoms (1) and (2) above appear)
         : ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
      00110001B Processor mode bits loaded
         : (memory expansion mode)
         : (Proper emulation performed)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    [Workaround]
Load values into the multiplexed bus space select bits and processor mode bits with successive instructions. Otherwise, don't perform debug operations during the period between steps 1 and 2 described in Section 2.
