M306N0T2-RPD-E Precaution
(Emulation Pod for the M16C/6N Group MCUs)

Please take note of the following problem arising at using emulation pod M306N0T2-RPD-E for the M16C/6N group MCUs in an external bus mode (memory expansion or microprocessor mode).

  1. Products Concerned
    All the products of M306N0T2-RPD-E
This problem does not occur in the other products.

  2. Description
When M306N0T2-RPD-E is used in an external bus mode (memory expansion or microprocessor mode), it may not provide proper operation.

  3. Condition
This problem occurs if the pod is running at a frequency of greater than 14 MHz with "No division mode" (in the clock division factor) and "No wait state" selected.

    Notes:
    (a) The maximum operating frequency is 14 MHz when the pod is used in an external bus mode with "No division mode" and "No wait state" selected, and 16 MHz when used in the single chip mode.
    (b) "No division mode" and "No wait state" are selected as follows:
    • No division mode in the clock division factor
Set main clock frequency division select bits CM17 and CM16 of system clock control register 1 (CM1 at address 0007h) to both "0".
    • No wait state
Set wait bit PM17 of processor mode register 1 (PM1 at address 0005h) to "0".
    (c) This problem cannot be sidestepped by setting wait bits CS0W -- CS3W of chip select control register CSR at address 0008h to all "0s" with No wait state selected.

  4. Workarounds
When running the pod at a frequency of 14 MHz or higher, set main clock frequency division select bits CM17 and CM16 to "0" and "1" respectively (division by 2 mode), or wait bit PM17 to "1" (with wait insert).

If you should use the pod under the condition described in 3 above, please contact our tool technical support at csc@renesas.com.
