A Note on Emulators
M32100T2-SDI-E, M32100T-SDI-E, and M32170T-SDI

Please take note of the following problem in using emulators M32100T2-SDI-E, M32100T-SDI-E, and M32170T-SDI for the M32R family MCUs.
  • On turning on the power supply to the target MCU after turning it off once

  1. Products Concerned
    (1) M32100T2-SDI-E for the 32102/32121/3217x group MCUs in the M32R/E series
    (2) M32100T-SDI-E and M32170T-SDI for the 32102/32121/3217x group MCUs in the M32R/E series that were upgraded according to MESC TOOL NEWS "M32100T-SDI-E, M32170T-SDI, M32120T-SDI Upgraded Versions Announcement" issued on December 16, 2000.

    Notes:
    1. All the upgraded products described above bear the letter "B" at the end of their serial numbers.
    2. Both the product types have been dropped from production.

  2. Description
While your emulator is running, turning on the power supply to the target MCU after turning it off once causes the target program to be improperly executed.

    Note:
This problem is related to "on-the-fly" debugging functions supported by emulator debugger M3T-PD32R V.2.10 Release 1. For details of these functions, see the MESC TOOL NEWS "M32100T-SDI-E, M32170T-SDI, M32120T-SDI Upgraded Versions Announcement" described above in item (2) of Section 1.

  3. Conditions
This problem occurs if the following four conditions are satisfied:
    (1) The target MCU is any one of the following:
    • In the M32R/E series:
      All 32102 group MCUs
      All 32120 group MCUs
      All 32121 group MCUs
    • In the M32R/ECU series:
      M3217xFxVWG
    • In the M32R/I series:
      All MCUs
    (2) Emulator debugger M3T-PD32R V.2.10 Release 1 is used.
    Notes:
    1. Custom products later than V.2.10 Release 1 are not concerned.
    2. The products earlier than V.2.10 Release 1 do not support "on-the-fly" debugging functions, so they are also not concerned.
    (3) The emulator is operated without the SDI trace interface cable being connected to it.
    (4) The power supply to the target MCU is turned on again after it was turned off.

  4. Workaround
    Please use the problem-eliminated firmware.
Notice: Don't use the problem-eliminated firmware for M3T-PD32R V.2.00 Release 2 and earlier since they are not concerned with this problem.
You can get the problem-eliminated firmware as follows:
    (1) Download the firmware file(file name:m32rsdi0.zip, 191KB).
    (2) Decompress the downloaded file.
    (3) Copy the decompressed file "m32rsdi0.s" to the folder in which emulator debugger "PD32R.exe" resides.
    (4) When M3T-PD32R launched, you see the message saying "We should download new firmware". Then click OK.

  5. Schedule of Fixing the Problem
We plan to include the problem-eliminated firmware with M3T-PD32R from our next release.
