A Note on Using
Integrated Development Environment
High-performance Embedded Workshop V.3.01.06

Please take note of the following problem in using the High-performance Embedded Workshop, an integrated development environment:
  • On unloading ELF/DWARF2-formatted load modules

  1. Version Concerned
The High-performance Embedded Workshop V.3.01.06 included with the following products and the one updated from any of the earlier versions using the hewv3161u.exe file for updating.
(1)A C/C++ compiler package for the SuperH RISC engine family
      R0C40700XSW09R
    (2)A C/C++ compiler package for the H8SX, H8S and H8 families
      R0C40008XSW06R
    (3)An E8 emulator
      R0E000080KCE00
    (4)E10A-USB emulators
      HS0005KCU01H
      HS0005KCU02H
    (5)E6000H emulators
      HS1650EPH60H
      HS0AE5EPH60H
      HS0AE5EPS01H

  2. Description
Unloading load modules generated in the ELF/DWARF2 format results in the High-performance Embedded Workshop's abnormal termination.

    2.1 Conditions
This problem occurs if the following conditions are all satisfied:
(1)The version (*) of the ElfDwarf2 Object reader (one of the High-performance Embedded Workshop's components) is 2.5.01.000.
(2)A variable defined by typedef is viewed in the Watch, Local, or Stack Trace window.
(3)A load module is unloaded within the following steps:
    1. Open the Debug menu and select Unload. You see a list of load module files. Then select a load module name in it to unload the load module.
    2. Open the Debug menu and select Download. You see the list of load module files again. Then select the load module name in it to re-download the load module.
    3. Open the Debug menu and select Initialize to initialize the debugging platform for setting the target CPU.
    4. Open the Debug menu and select Disconnect to disconnect the debugging platform.
    5. Open the File menu and select Close Workspace.
    6. Open the File menu and select Close Application.

    * How to Check for the Version No.
    1. Open the Tool menu and select Administration. The Tools Administration dialog box appears.
    2. Select the ElfDwarf2 object reader out of the Debugger Components folder in the Components list and then press the Properties button in the Administration dialog box.
    3. The Properties dialog box opens, and you see the version number on the Information tab.

  3. Workaround
This problem can be circumvented in either of the following ways:
    (1)Update your High-performance Embedded Workshop to V.3.01.08.
For details, see RENESAS TOOL NEWS "Integrated Development Environment High-performance Embedded Workshop Revised to V.3.01.08" issued on November 1, 2004.

(2)After opening a workspace and before downloading a load module generated in the ELF/DWARF2 format, perform the following steps:
    • Delete all the variables declared by typedef and listed in the Watch window
    • Then close the Local and Stack Trace windows.

  4. Schedule of Fixing the Problem
In our next release of the compilers concerned, we plan to include the problem-fixed High-performance Embedded Workshop with them.
In our next release of the compilers and emulators concerned, we plan to include the problem-fixed High-performance Embedded Workshop with them.
