A Note on Using
the Emulator Software Packages
for the E8 and the E7 Emulator |
Please take note of the problem described below in using the emulator software packages for the E8 and the E7 emulator.
- Products and Versions Concerned
- E8 emulator software V.2.03 Release 00--V.2.06 Release 01
- E7 emulator software V.3.00 Release 00 and V.3.00 Release 01
- Problem
When the H8/38327F MCU is targeted for debugging, using the LCD or WDT Reset function results in the malfunctioning of the emulator with an error message saying "Communication Timeout Error" accompanied.
And, when the H8/38347F targeted, using the WDT Reset function causes the same error to arise, though the LCD function is performed properly.

Conditions
This problem occurs if the following debuggers are used together with the E8 and the E7 emulator respectively:
- H8/300H Tiny, H8/300H Super Low Power, H8/300L Super Low Power E8 emulator debugger V.1.01.00--V.1.01.01
included with the E8 emulator software concerned
- H8/300H Tiny, H8/300H Super Low Power, H8/300L Super Low Power E7 emulator debugger V.3.00.00 and V.3.00.01
included with the E7 emulator software concerned

How to check for the version number of your debugger is as follows:

In the High-performance Embedded Workshop, open the Tool menu and select the Administration command. The Administration dialog box appears. |

In the Registered Components list, open the Debugger Components folder, and you see the version number of your debugger: Tiny/SLP E8 SYSTEM or Tiny/SLP E7 SYSTEM. |
- Workaround
We supply the WS editions of the emulator software packages in which the problem has tentatively been fixed. So please contact your local Renesas Technology sales office or distributor if you need them.
- Schedule of Fixing the Problem
We plan to fix this problem in the next versions of the products. They are as follows:
- E8 emulator software V.2.06 Release 02 (to be released at the end of February)
- E7 emulator software V.3.01 Release 00 (to be released at the end of March)
When they are released, we will inform you of it in our tool news.
