PD79SIM V.2.00 Release 1
Upgraded Version Announcement

This is to announce that Windows-hosted simulator debugger PD79SIM for the 7900 series of microcomputers has been upgraded to its V.2.00 Release 1, and its English version has been released for the first time.
Description
PD79SIM V.2.00 Release 1 (hereafter called PD79SIM) is a simulator debugger for simulating the operation of the 7900 series of 16-bit microcomputers and can run on Windows 98, Windows 95, and Windows NT 4.0. It has been upgraded from its preceding version, PD79SIM V.1.00 Release 1, as follows:
Functions Extended
The nine functions explained below have been introduced to the upgraded version.
- I/O window
This window enables the user to write and read data to and from memory and set interrupt requests, in each cycle.
- GUI input window
Since a simplified key input panel used for the user's target system can be visualized on this window, clicking buttons created on the panel will input data or generate interrupts.
- GUI output window
A simplified key output panel used for the user's target system can also be visualized on this window.
- I/O script function
This function enables the user to describe data to be written to memory and interrupt settings in their files in script format. Specifically, operations of on-chip circuits such as timers can be described in the files.
- MR windows/MR commands
The status of the real-time OS can be displayed using these window and commands.
- Function of specifying directory in which temporary files created
When the on-demand method is selected, downloading a target program always creates a temporary file. The upgraded version provides the function of specifying the directory in which the temporary file is created. This directory is specified using the Init dialog box.
- Customize function
The user can set their own customized commands and windows by using this function, in which the tools for creating these commands and windows are also included.
- Make function
To "Make" a target program, it is currently necessary to type a command at the DOS prompt. However, the upgraded version enables the user to perform this operation via PD79SIM.
- Support for Windows 98
The upgraded version has been improved to run also on Windows 98.
Problem Fixed
The following problem encountered in the preceding PD79SIM V.1.00 Release 1 has been fixed:
- When creating Motorola S-format files using the upload function, the check sum of the end record (the final line) cannot correctly be generated.
For this item refer to Tool News "PD30, PD30SIM, PD77, PD77SIM Precaution" on July 1, 1998.
- Note:
- Machine language files generated with the upload function of debuggers are to be used for debugging only. Please create those to be written into ROMs of final products with the load module converter or HEX file converter included in compilers.

Upgrade service is available to the customers of PD79SIM V.1.00 Release 1, with additional charge. For inquiries on upgrade service, please contact your local Renesas Technology sales office or distributor.
This service covers the upgrade of PD79SIM V.1.00 Release 1 for Windows 3.1 to PD79SIM V.2.00 Release 1 for Windows 98/95, and Windows NT 4.0. The users of the product for Windows 3.1 are recommended to make use of this service.
Notes on Windows 3.1 Version
The upgraded version (V.2.00 Release 1) runs on Windows 98/95 and Windows NT 4.0 only; not on Windows 3.1. Also, the Windows 3.1 version of PD79SIM V.1.00 Release 1 was dropped from production in October 1998.
