MESC TOOL NEWS:
MESCT-PC4701HS-990401D
Please take note of the following problem in using emulator PC4701HS for the M16C/7700/740 families of microcomputers.
Product Concerned
The following product is concerned with this problem:
| Product Name | Remarks |
| PC4701HS | Main unit of emulator for M16C/7700/740 families [High performance version] (Conforming to overseas standard) Serial Nos.: 8KE1561E, 8KE1613E--8KE1661E |
Problem
When several PC4701HS emulators, manufactured in November 1998 and inscribed with above mentioned serial Nos., are connected to the network with LAN interfaces, some or all of them respond to the communication with the host computer at the same time even though each of them has a correct IP address.
[Example]
Pressing the GO button of a PDXX emulator debugger running on the host computer results in the RUN LED of some or all of the PC4701HSs connected to the network being turned on simultaneously.
The cause of this problem is that the MAC address (Ethernet address) given to a certain emulator is duplicated, and a number of products manufactured in November 1998 are involved in the duplication.
Workaround
Fixing this problem needs to replace the ROM storing the MAC address. Since this ROM is not the one in which the firmware is downloaded, the problem cannot be fixed by upgrading the firmware. Then, please send your emulator unit to your local Renesas Technology sales office or distributor, and we will replace its ROM at no charge with a new one that a correct MAC address has been written to.
[Expiration Date of Replacement]
Your product is acceptable until September 30, 1999, inclusive.
It is recommended that the user who is now not using the LAN interface also replace their product.
